Our product, the HappyTap, is the world’s first affordable, portable sink designed for low-income settings. It is mass-produced and purpose-built for handwashing.  The HappyTap was developed and refined over a decade. Two current versions (one for Southeast Asia and one for South Asia) were designed based on several years of formative research, user-testing, and many iterations of rapid prototyping—in close consultation with children and caregivers in South and Southeast Asia. The resulting product is brightly colored with attractive aesthetics. It serves as a visual nudge or cue, and makes handwashing convenient to insert into daily routines. Such hygiene infrastructure is essential for people to wash their hands consistently, which is partly why the indicator for SDG 6.2 measures such facilities in households.

The HappyTap is a desirable and affordable portable sink designed for low-income settings, purpose-built for
handwashing and designed in close consultation with users.

Beyond our products, the HappyTap team have been advocates for evidence-based hygiene interventions. For nearly ten years we have helped implementers of conventional hygiene education campaigns to improve the impact of their programs. We can bring a valuable and unique perspective to hygiene promotions—we’re a local private company focused 100% on hygienic habit formation. We do human-centered R&D, develop messages across a range of behavioural determinants, and have contributed to the body of knowledge on hygiene.
